Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte)
German: Chancenkarte
Reviewed by Sajid ur Rehman— MSc Physics candidate, University of MünsterLast updated 20 July 2026
The Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is a points-based residence permit that lets qualified people come to Germany to look for work, without a job offer in hand. Points come from qualifications, German/English skills, work experience and age. It requires proof of funds (higher than the student blocked amount).
Why it matters for applicants from Pakistan, India & Bangladesh
For graduates and skilled workers who can fund themselves, it's an alternative to the study/Ausbildung route — but the funds requirement is higher, so check whether you qualify.
