Tuition at public universities is little or nothing — usually only a semester contribution of about €150–350. Your main budget is the blocked account (around €11,904 for the first year, which is your own money) plus one-off costs for the visa, uni-assist, health insurance and a language test. Living costs are separate, roughly €900–1,300 a month.

Once your file is submitted, processing at the German mission (New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata (VFS / consulates)) typically takes about 6–12 weeks. Getting an appointment is usually the bigger wait, so budget your money early and apply the moment a slot opens.
